Strongman comp kirkaldy 22/8/2009

Entered my first 'open' comp(rather than 105) and had a great time. Got totally whipped as expected.
I never managed to register a lift until the 3rd event

I got

120kg clean/push press zero reps
420kg tyre 0 flips.
180kg shield carry 19.92m (turns at 15m)
280kg deadlift from 15" x 5 reps
300kg frame hold for time. 6 seconds (how bad could I be if I didnt train my grip! )
140kg stone over yoke 5 reps (nipple height for me)

The other guys got heaps more at everything.


Got some footage of the 1st three events only. Will upload remainder of tyre and shield events during week. I was meeting most folk for the first time and might have got folks names mixed up etc. If these links don't work, then they are on the bigdinnie youtube channel.

Well done James , some heavy events there , the 180k sheild carry must have been a real killer

Yeah those are very heavy events!
It takes balls to put yourself on the line when you know you're likely to get a pasting.

Thanks guys. I took the comp at 3 weeks notice. I doubt it made much difference other than the tyre event where I lacked the knowledge to edge it up after the initial pull only got it as high as my belly. A bit of practice might have seen me manage one flip?

The shield (infact the comp in general) was about 30kg+ more than I had been used to in the 105kg class in Oz.

The shield event was tough. Not so much 'sore' as 'numb' during the event...and a little light headed. Lots of bruising on the arms now.
Check out Mike Daly's shield technique...never seen that before.

The main thing is James you "manned up" and went for it, nobody can take that away from you and you had a great day with some good memories. I'd call that a win
