Event rules
1. One Hand Bench Press with a dumbbell. (4 attempts - max lift)
The rules of the Bench Press apply except that only one arm may be used in performing the lift. The non-lifting arm and hand must remain free and not touch the lifting arm/hand or the bar during the lift. The dumbbell is handed to you at the top; you will lower it to your chest keeping it roughly parallel, and have one end of the dumbbell rod touch the chest, and then press it to arm’s length. The dumbbell will be taken off you by the loaders at the end of the lift.
2. One Hand Curl against wall with a dumbbell. (4 attempts - max lift)
The lifter shall curl the dumbbell from a stationary position. The lift will be done with the lifter’s bottom, upper back and head against the wall. These must remain in contact with the wall at all times. The lifter shall wait in the starting position for the Head Referee's signal, and for the ‘down’ signal. There will be a line (12”) in front of the wall, where your heels cannot go further in front.
3. Loose Plate Pinch Lifting (4 attempts - max lift)
Two discs will be used with the smooth sides out. These will not be fixed by a bar, and will be loaded with chain and extra discs instead to keep the apparatus still loose. The lifting hand must be above the level of the knees at the completion of the lift, and the weight lowered without releasing them upon the ref’s signal. 2 x 20k (45lb) discs, better 2 x 15k (35lb) discs and so forth.
4. Zercher Lift (4 attempts - max lift)
Deadlift the bar onto the knees or thighs. The lifter will then bend down, with the bar resting on the legs, to a position in which the lifter is able to secure the bar in the crooks of the elbows. The lifter will then stand erect with the arms bent and the bar in the crook of the elbow. The lifter’s arms may be inside or outside of the legs. The hands may be locked together. Once the bar is motionless, the legs straight, the body erect with shoulders upright, the referee will give the ‘down’ signal. The bar must be returned to the platform under control for the lift to be complete. It is acceptable to drop the bar at around waist level.
5. Seated One Hand Dumbell Press (working from the lightest of about 10 globe dumbells up to the heaviest. Doing 3 reps on each dumbell, in the time alloted - 3 min).
The 3 minutes allotted time starts, and the lifter gets the dumbbell handed to him one at a time to do the required 3 reps. After each 3 reps is completed, the dumbbell is taken away and replaced with the next heavier one. The majority of these dumbbells are globe bells. The event will be done on a bench with no backrest (the lifter’s back will be totally unsupported throughout the event). The globe has to touch the shoulder or lower on each rep, and of course be pressed to lockout. There is no restriction on backbend during the press. At this moment the dumbbells range from 30-172lb, but this may change).
It will be limited to the first 20 competitors.

They are weights, and are as strong as they ever were.

You'll have fun. Don't think I've done a Zercher in about 15 years.

Re: Muscles & Medals Old-School Strength Challenge
So come on then, let's be having a show of hands as to who will be going.
Put me down (not literally) for a spot. I need to break my duck at some point so might as well make it this one.
Twig, you making one?
