Muscles & Medals Old-School Strength Challenge
Saturday 1 Aug, 2009 (Might have to change this date to Aug 9, as there is a strongman comp on the same day)
Venue: My gym, Stafford
Promoter: David Horne
Start: 11am. No entry fee, no trophies.
Events:
1. One Hand Bench Press Never tried it!
2. One Hand Curl against wall Never tried it!
3. Loose Plate Pinch Lifting I suck at this
4. Zercher (4 attempts - max lift) I assume you mean squat, not dead?
5. Seated One Hand Dumbell Press (working from the lightest of about 10 globe dumbells up to the heaviest. Doing 3 reps on each dumbell, in the time alloted - 3 min)Never tried it!
I'm in but may have to compete R/H only depending on surgery on the left.

It's only one handed Neil.
I've had to change the date to Sunday the 9th because of a strongman comp that a few of the guys will be doing on the 1st.
I'll edit the first post now.

I do beleave i can see a road trip coming.
The bench press etc are they done with a oly bar.
The Zercher am i correct in thinking it's a conans arm position then squat down and back up.

Mike,
Good to see you here.
Also it would be great to see you at this comp, and I think you and the boys would obviously do well at it.
The Bench Press is done with a dumbell with a long rod, and you bring the rod down to touch your chest and press back up. Touch and go.
The Zercher isn't like the video. But this video shows it better

But you can do it with a wider stance than this, and also have the arms closer and lock the hands. Also at the conclusion of the lift you can just bend forward and let the weight drop to the platform. This is IAWA rules.

Make yourself free then. There's plenty of time to rearrange stuff

Neil,
It's as informal a contest as you'll get and should be pretty good fun. The lifts test everything.

The second video; Deadlift the bar onto your legs.
Personally I would have your legs wider and bring your arms in between them and clasp your hands like a conans. But you can do whatever one you want.

Shawn,
Most certainly welcome, you'll have a good time.
It'll be interesting to see you on the Zercher!
I'll put the address and postcode on the main thread.

Shawn,
There's no entrance fee, and obviously no trophies.
You can post the comp wherever you like, but I'll probably have a cut-off of 15-20 competitors. So once those numbers have filled up that's it.
