Some old cast iron dumbells
I'm trying to work out how to get pictures uploaded- hopefully this should work.

Two single dumbells, one made by "CARRON"-4.5lb and the other is marked SGOFF &co, 22 King St, covent Garden. I'm pretty sure this was the old department store that sold it rather than the maker's name.

18lb dumbells, no maker's name, but very nice.
If this upload works I'll put a couple more pics of other dumbells up.

I think I've fixed it
Cheers Twig, I think I've sorted the link out now. I used to be good with computers. I've turned into my dad now.

Mark,
Is the dumbell Goff, or Sgoff?

Re: Some old cast iron dumbells
It is S. GOFF- I've googled the name and address and found it described as "the handiest shop in London, 18, 19 & 22, King Street, Covent Garden. S. Goff, proprietor" in a music catalogue dated 1882. I also found another entry from 1909 describing the store as "gun and saddlery dealers". When I was last in London I couldn't find number 22 on King St, but it was certainly more like a high street than somewhere you'd find a foundry. This particular bell has a really short handle-3.5".
Hope this helps.

Some older ones
Here's a nice 6lb pair. They're made by A K & sons and have a registered design number 19150. This design was registered on 18/12/1884 as: "Class 1: metal goods. Registered design No 19150: registered by A Kenrick and Sons Limited, Iron Founders, of West Bromwich.
This design is applicable for design only." They have a nice intricate pattern on the ends. I have seen a set of 5 single bells on ebay for a stupid ammount- something like £150! They had red twine around the handles. I can see a hole on each end of the bell where there are the remains of some red twine, so clearly the handle was bound at some point.
