Great day away, and picking up some super items!
We had a beautiful day away to the seaside at Llandudno and the area the other day. On the way home I went and picked some old discs from a chap in Wigan. In fact I'd bought them not fully knowing what I'd bought. There was just under 300lb of weight there including George Grose, and more impressively some Charles Heap & Co, and Trevor discs. These were great finds, and I'm really pleased to have them in my collection, and of course use them. The Charles Heap discs are shown in the 1914 book 'Great Strength by Muscle Control' by Maxick, so are per-1914 (they sold shot-loading dumbells/barbells between 1901-06).
Now in among these discs were some mostly unmarked (some with just the weights marked) discs, weighing in at 10lb or 15lb. My thoughts are these are from the same era as the Heap discs (1900-10), and could be Inch discs or the other companies at the time who copied the Inch discs. If you look at pictures of Arthur Saxon using Inch discs, these are exactly the same, with the flat edges, and no markings. I also got a barbell and collars which also look like they are from the same peroid, so all in all it was a great day away.
I'll do a bit more research on this stuff.

It's always nice to find something you're really after and an awayday at the coast is even better. However, mention ye not Llandudno
Horrific week there in 1969. Despite having a welsh surname when they found out my old man was a cockney on the first evening you can imagine the horrors we faced in the hotel

When you look at the stuff that must have rusted away in cellars/gardens/basements over the years it's quite sad really, and also makes you wonder what treasures are still out there waiting to be discovered, hopefully by someone who appreciates what they have found.

Do u ever take time to restore any certain disks to a semi new condition by sand blasting and painting? I ask because I've never seen this when I see pictures of your equipement, it always looks to be kept in your garden uncovered. When I was younger id always repaint once a year or so, but now I really like them to look a little rougher now that I'm older.

Rico,
Those discs haven't been refurbished yet as I've moved house and am living at my in-laws with my stuff in storage. I wouldn't sandblast them anyway as I don't want to deeply remove the 'life' of the disc, so a quick sand over and prime before painting in the colour I know they should be. I have done quite a few discs so far, and also Elizabeth has done a beautuiful job of an old bench (from the 60s) that I have had for a long time. It's the most comfortable bench I've ever used.
