books worth buying

Post  james_grahame on Wed Sep 23, 2009 7:17 am

I have some money from the blockweights I sold to Tony and Paul (quick payers these guys Very Happy ) and I figured I might buy some books.

I like grip, strongman and highland games and wondered what other people thought were good ...and perhaps the websites they used to find their books?

An online subscription to "Milo" will set you back about £25.

I can't remember where I got heard of this site (it may have been here) but it is pretty good.

It sells multiple copies of the same book...supplied by people all over the world. They send it to the alibris company..who check it ..and forward it on to you. e.g you might get first editions, softcover, hardcover versions of the same book ...all different prices.

Here is a search for 'david webster highland'.

I should be putting in an order for some of Bill HINBERN'S reproduction books from the states soon. If anyone else is interested in getting some let me know and we can split the postage.

cheers- I'll have a look. I've also been able to pick up an original old copy of PULLUM'S "weightlifting made easy and interesting" from abebooks cheaper than Hinbern's copy.

I've been lucky enough to get "The Amazing Samson as Told by Himself With Foreword by W.A. Pullum" for £12 on ebay-worth the money just for the description of the Saxon trio performing after a few glasses of "good English beer". It starts on page 40 and is worth the read
