But all that extra manliness should make you much stronger than the 140lb-er!
Anyway don't worry, I don't think we're including that.

So Paul, when are you going to let us know what events you'll be running on the 25th?

Re: Primal Fitness Grip Competition, Manchester UK
We're looking at a mix of my events and Simon's, currently proposing:
1) Vulcan Gripper
2) 1” Vertical Bar Lift
3) Kettlebell Farmer’s Walk
4) Dumbell Hex Hold
5) Fat Wrist Roller
I'm going to see if I can pop over at the weekend for a training session, and try out the events.

It would be great to see the 1" V-Bar return to competition.

I should, by then, have a prototype revolving 1" vbar that will remove the possibility of bicep tears.Paul Wood wrote:2) 1” Vertical Bar Lift.
Let me know if you do and I'll try and meet up with you.Paul Wood wrote:I'm going to see if I can pop over at the weekend for a training session, and try out the events.

I'm of the view that bicep tears had more to do with lifting with a bent arm than the rotation, but we can give it a go if you have it in time.
I should be going Saturday, probably early afternoon. I'll check trains / ask the mrs and confirm a time.

I think that one of the other reasons to why the 1" vbar lost popularity, was beacuse of the real ugly skintears that you could get.
It didn't feel funny when blood poured out from both of my hands.

Combination of that and how some people try to 'row' the weight up.
I for one don't want to see 1'' v-bar return because of the skin tears. In the past i have found the v-bar to be a test of whose skin tears first rather than a test of strength. 2'' v-bar has become more popular though, i have played with this a little bit using various loading pins and there is a lot less bicep soreness / injury risk and no skin tears.

Re: Primal Fitness Grip Competition, Manchester UK
The skin tears seem to happen mainly with failed lifts, as the bar slips out. I think it's still a pretty good test of grip.

Re: Primal Fitness Grip Competition, Manchester UK
Right, went over on Saturday, had a nice training session at primal. It's a great venue, very close to the city centre. As I said in my log, it was slightly surreal coming out, walking just a few hundred metres down the road and finding myself in the maelstrom of market street on a saturday afternoon. Had a chat with Simon and Fernando about some of the details for the events, Simon please chip in and correct me if I misunderstood anything.
1) Vulcan Gripper
Rules as before, 20mm block set, 4 max attempts, ref must be able to clearly see set and close.
2) 1” Vertical Bar Lift
Again as before, 2" lift, 4 max attempts. Lock out not required, just lift the required height. Take 'warm up' attempts as needed.
3) Kettlebell Farmer’s Walk
Will use a 32kg kettlebell, 4 laps of the facility, fastest time wins.
4) Fat Wrist Roller
Wrists supported on a bar at about shoulder height, the roller itself is not supported. 5kg x 2 trips each way, fastest time wins. The weight doesn't sound much, but in this style, it's enough. I tried it on Saturday and it burns
Tiebreaker: Dumbell Hex Hold
One end of a 12.5kg hex dumbell held for max time, bit like a hub lift.
I think this will be an interesting mix of events, a bit different from the usual. A few of the primal crowd should be competing, who probably won't be familiar with grippers or vbar, so will be at a disadvantage with those (I will try to give a few pointers though). The more speedy / endurancey events may help to even things out a bit for the kettlebelly types.
One thing I forgot to bring up is the scoring system, I'd suggest we do strongman style points system, 1 pt for 1st, 2 for 2nd etc., lowest score wins.
Kick off is at 2pm, please get there for 1:30 to get ready, sign disclaimers etc.

Yep the end of a whole dumbell by the face.
Oh and the wrist roller is about 2.5" I would say.
