European Grip Championships 2010

Post  Jose Jara on Wed Dec 31, 2008 10:49 am

The next European Grip Champs will be in Madrid, 2010.

Please, could you tell me your preferences for the events?

I think that euro grippers and europinch are standards, but the other three?

1 supporting event, 1 wrist event, and maybe one endurance event. Orbigrip would be a good finisher - haha!

Yes, OrbiGrip is an option hehe Wink

I think, for the support event the one hand deadlift is a classic.

And my doubt is for the test of wrist strength. It's possible a plate wrist curls, plate curls or similar, the problem is the rules for these lifts.

Why not see how the Plate Wrist Curl goes at the 2009 Brits.

Also Reverse Bending was done at the 2004 comp.

yes Jose ,
Put some bending , its a must!

Because this is an european event i would vote in the Vulcan to be used instead of regular grippers(no!David dont pay to make this kind of comments)lol.

events i 'd like to watch

2HP
Vulcan credit card
R.T regular grip
DU or DO bending
Wrist roller? (push it with one rope like they did at the last finish champ).

Top guy prefer almost the same events i understand but imagine this event like one world strongman contest : they dont use ALWAYS the same events. For me doing always the same its not fun to watch.

Since there's a very good chance I will compete this contest (if possible), I'll give my vote here as well:

2HP
grippers (vulcan), 20mm block
Rolling thunder thumbless
One hand lift (using OHL handle)
Reverse bending
Sledge Hammer levering /weaver stick
Medley: (Blob 50, baby inch, some weird shaped rock (approx 20-25kg) should all be lifted on a platform of 130cm height as soon as possible using 1 hand.) first run through the cycle using the left hand, then through the cycle using the right hand.

Any of these events would be nice while keeping hand size in mind...

Personally I'm not much of an endurance fan. It's like the 100m sprint vs a marathon. You can't excel in both at the same time Wink

Can't you? Hmm. I pulled 190-kilos on the double over hand Apollons axle (just before Laine's 200) then broke the record on the baby Inch hold for time. If you think you can you will.

But I'm not a fan of these medleys. Mostly because they consist of ad-hoc events of the kind we play around with after competition and now seem to be a part of the competition. If I have time and am not crazy hungry or burnt out then I am up for a crack. They are, with the list of lifts added, most certainly endurance.

Sorry, time to play my Tanni card again: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanni_Grey-Thompson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_winners_of_the_London_Marathon

Notice, amongst other things, that in Barcelona she won 100, 200, 400 and 800M sprint, and in the same year (1992) she won the London Marathon.

Of course you can win both a strength and an endurance event, but this highly depends on your opponents. But the guy holding the world record on the marathon has a completely different build then the guy holding the 100m sprint, this is what I mean with excelling in both.

Personally I prefer the sprint as a feat over the marathon. But this is just my personal preference Wink

1. Grippers (yes normal grippers, and with parallell set).
2. Two hand pinch
3. V-bar used to be here, but I'll manage just fine without it! Smile
4. One hand deadlift without hook.
5. Maybe DU or reverse bending, but without some strange folding techniques.

i am glad Martin voted about bending as one of the events; v-bar sounds good as well.

why reverse bending instead of du/do? i am asking to the grip guys in generality... Embarassed

Jose,

will u take in consideration personal preference (of the members)?
if the r.t get most of the votes, will u pick this event? (its only one example)
thanks.

What I actually meant about vbar is that I suck at it and don't want my hands shredded. Smile I would actually prefer to use 50mm/2" vbar instead of the 25mm version.

Because it's a true test of wrist strength. For DO bending you don't really bend your wrist, you only need to keep them in a straight line with the fore arms which is much easier.
DU used to be similar but techniques of "folding" are already being used. So reverse is the only one left.
I would be perfectly happy with DU / DO in a contest though, I don't really care, but since you want a grip strength contest reverse is more in place Wink

DU doesn't have to be performed with the folding technique. I actually haven't tried to fold with DU, is it possible to "fold" when the pinkys is 2-3 cm apart?
