Crazy medley, is that many events needed really. What's the time limit for the medley?

I can see Steve winning 3 events in that contest.

I can see the Medley being a bit of a Clusterfuck - are the items graded or is it max no of items wins?

Steve, looking at that ridiculous medley, I would start doing some cardio! Plus, why haven't all the weights been sorted yet? Medley's are stacked for the guy that owns the equipment. It's like Sorin's thing, he had access to them but everyone else had to turn up and have a go. I don't see a wrist event unless he's counting the nail bending.

Max number wins.

Agreed Nick. I'm starting a few bits and bobs soon.

Steve, good luck.

I don´t understand this monster medley. If you lift 2 hand pinch in one event, why you must lift later in the medley with less weight? simply i don't understand.

Nick, what's your favourite/best wrist event for a contest?

Thanks in advance!

Jose I agree 100%. There are at least 3 lifts in the medley we've already done and with weight some wont make in the main events.

Alot of the US medleys have that many different lifts, or close to it. Chris Rice started the trend with his comp.

Really, it is fun as hell. I had one in a comp, and used it as a chance to throw in some of the weird stuff Larkin taught us. Vbar with a 60d, hand and thigh, etc.

At the risk of hijacking the thread....how did you guys decide on the events in your medley, while trying to avoid..

i. the organiser , but not the lifters, having all the equipment to train with.

ii. picking appropriate events to seperate lifters without being biased towards your own abilities or the guys
you know that are going to turnup.

I can see Steve doing his strongest contest ever, as his grip strength seems stronger than ever. But the competition will be crazy strong.

This contest is for the guys that are BIG AND STRONG. The medley makes sense. But hard feats, like Inch DB deadlift or blob deadlift have to be very easy for you. This contest will raise the bar.

I guess I should chime in seeing as how I seem to be the guy behind the 20 event medley (actually the Germans did it before me).
1. In my case at least, I do not announce in advance the medley events - so I do have an advantage probably (I need all the help I can get Smile . It doesn't really change much from year to year though. That said, the same guys that did (do) well in the rest of the contest always do well in the medley. It seems that strong is strong - go figure. In the case of Chads contest - he is telling us right up front, everything that will be in the medley - and come on - what is in there that guys at this level either don't already have, or can't make or buy given the time from his announcement to contest day?
2. My goal is to do two things in my medley. First to NOT give advantage to large hands any more than necessary to be sure wide pinch and fatbar strength is tested a couple times. And second is to test things that are not usually tested in any way in the more "normal" grip events. Key pinch, very thin pinch, "plywood lift", 3/8" vbar, Slim Levering from the floor, rotational levering in and outside, RT pullups with weight - if I can think of it, it might end up in my medley. As a third goal, I try to make it hard enough that no one completes all 20 items. The time limit I make short enough to test endurance by making you have to keep moving while at or close to your limit (or above as the case may be). Do not under estimate the endurance factor - things that are easy under rested conditions, seem to be glued to the floor at the end. Figuring the best sequence is critical as well. I guess big medleys are liked by some and not liked by others - personally I have found that people like them - or at least the ones who come to Gripmas do. It may also be that people don't come to Gripmas because of the medley - that's also possible of course. I guess that's something for each person to decide. If you don't like the events in any contest - I would imagine you simply won't go to it. I also imagine any promoter who also competes probably won't include events that they have problems with. I can pretty well promise DO bending will never be in my contest as my shoulders don't allow me to even do it anymore. Do I pick events that favor me - perhaps - but I switch things around enough that I hit some I'm better at and some I end up sucking at as well. But any time the events are announced far in advance - everyone has the opportunity to train them and improve in them. The thing I have trouble with is putting it together so that it stops the strongest guys but doesn't become impossible across the board for the weaker people there.
