Re: Chad Woodall event 2009
I think it might be a "UK" thing - if the events are well designed why go over the same ground in a Medley? Plus the whole thing is, or at least can be, a bit of a mess scoring wise - who decides that implements are of equal value, are they ranked in order etc etc.

They can be lifted in any order you choose and are of equal points value.

Re: Chad Woodall event 2009
I agree with Chris's philosophy on the medley, and I patterned mine after his. Lots of odd things and things that Don Larkin taught us that may not fit in good as a regular event.
I prefer to announce my stuff beforehand, but honestly I don't think I would have trained differently if for Chris's contest if he had announced it. Also, I see the advantage- The suprise does make it more fun for competitors. Chris did a very good job in making his medley, and for the most part medley placings mirrored overall placing.
When I made my medley, I had three groups of objects- Those I could do easily, those I had a shot at, and those that I thought only the strongest guys would get. Since I am a middle of the pack guy, I think it balanced out well. Alot of it was traditional grip stuff (hubs, blocks, inch) and a bunch of stuff was weird things that not many people would see.
In any event, if some of the events had a trick to them, I made sure to help coach anyone the day before or the day of. I wasn't trying to trick anyone, I just wanted to expose them to alot of the neat things Larkin taught us.

Your medley last year was great Bob. And I so appreciate you taking the time to show me how to do the black spring especially. That thing wiped me the F out!!! Just like Josh said, I felt absolutely smashed after that. Which was kind of embarrassing since I saw how easily you and some of the other guys did it. But you're correct. I have never seen you try to be tricky at one of your contests. And it would be very easy to be like that if you wanted to and hinder some guys more than they'd probably like to believe. You've shown anyone from a mid-pack guy like me to the elite guys how to do some of the events or medley objects and it has all helped.
I remember Zach was cool enough to show a few guys (some of them pretty strong pinchers) how to lift that really narrow pinch plate. Otherwise they would've bombed on that object.
You probably don't remember, but I showed you how to put on the Orca backpack. Otherwise I think you would've bombed that event, haha!

Looks like Steve got pipped, 2nd in a field of that quality is still fantastic though
Look forward to hearing the full results.

Good write up Steve. Interesting to see your use of tactics and planning through the event, that's a good tool for us comp noobs. Respect to Rex and his family for providing such a welcome.
