http://www.ontariostrongman.ca/Resources/training/basic_primer.html the ontario strongman site has a lot of good info, if i remember right, and a quick glance over this page has three links relating to the keg

Hey Mark- I have a couple of those - just get a flathead screwdriver, ram it into the middle of the valve, push down then wedge it completely under the rim, hold in place throughout process. This should provide enough clearance for you to depressurise then use a hosepipe and get the water in...
Thanks for all your help today!

everyone - the Holle Brothers have kindly donated an Inch dumbell, and now you can choose what you want! The ARNI strength equipment draw will be done in sequence, so if your name is first out of the hat, you can choose ANYTHING on the list!

Thanks everyone, Tom

Tom/Elliot thanks for the info .The kegs filled, apart from getting a little wet Laughing it was easy to do.It weighs in at 61k, it will take 64k or near enough but i wanted the water to move around inside to make it a little harder to lift.

if you want it harder have part water and part sand, then it will be heavier and the water and sand can move around

That reminds me of an incident in the bar at my work. I found two empty kegs and a full keg. Me and another little guy started pressing the empty kegs overhead, pretending it was a real effort. Quite a few other blokes rose to the challenge and then got upset when couldn't get the full keg above their knees. They didn't work it out either- must've been the beer! Looking back it was probably dangerous, but very funny Laughing

Nice story Mark very funny.
I might get another barrel if I can to fill with some sand to get it heavier . I would have to break off the seal to get the sand in however and then have to try and re seal it with something. For rep work the 61k feels heavy enough alot harder than a 100k barbell and harder to press than my 62k anvil.Nice smell of woodpecker cider drifted out of it when I was filling it Very Happy

Filled my keg today thanks to this thread. It was a lot easier then I though. I thought I was going to have problems with the seal after I messed about with it but its fine. No idea how much it weighs but like you I left it a bit sloshy. Put it above my head a few times and it feels good, i can see how the grip will get a heavy workout from it.
