Elbow injury - any suggestions?
I'm going to see a proffesional in the next couple of weeks and find out for sure what the nature of my elbow injury is but maybe some of you reading might have experienced something like it before and shed some light or offer advice.
When I squeeze my hand very tight in the top 'curl' position I feel a pain on the inside of my elbow in what seems to be the tricep area right next to the boney bit.
When I extend my arm with this same kind of tension it's fine up to the point where I've almost fully extended my lower arm. Then I feel pain in the same area as described before but also around the outer side of my elbow and what feels like the brachialis or forearm around that area.
When I fully extend the pain increases in those same areas and can be felt in the elbow joint at the back and what seems to be the lower area of the triceps.
When I pressed into certain areas I can feel pain when I press into the boney bit of the outside area of the elbow joint with what seems to be a fleshy attachment to that area. that to me feels like a part of the forearm. The other area that feels tender when pressed into is the lower triceps around the elbow.
I'm currently iceing it 1-2 times a day and rubbing ibuprofen gel into it. This has decreased the pain a bit. It's not a big deal, I would say it's a 3-4max out of 10. It hasn't stopped me training and the exercises I currently do don't make it any worse but possibly aren't allowing the healing either.
Worse comes to worse I'll have to do nothing but squats and abs for a while until it heals.

You're doing the right thing getting it looked at Nick. Sounds like some kind of tendon issue. Careful with the ibuprofen gel - in the sense that it can mask the pain & let you carry on training when you'd be better off resting it. That's easy advice to give, but I hammer the ibuprofen gel myself
Do you work your extensors at all? I find a couple of sets of high rep band extensions every day really reduces my elbow niggles. Instead of just icing it you could try alternating ice & heat. Also, some self massage with a tennis ball often works for me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think you're right about the mixing the hot and cold treatments. I did feel better after applying some heat today.
I've only just started using the ibuprofen gel so I'm aware of the true pain level. The pain isn't always there if you know what I'm trying to say. If I'm just resting my arm there is no pain but when I move it in certain position it's there. It's mainly the extending that's painful especially if I'm clenching my fist very tight.
I'll give those extensions a try, I have been planning to do them for some time but it's like the rotar cuff work it often gets overlooked.

I think ibuprofen is good stuff if you have a muscular injury, but less effective for tendon problems.
I've been getting occasional pain in my shoulder. It isnt there & then I move it in a certain way & the pain is really sharp. Like you say, havent bothered with RC work for a while & now I've got a problem I decide to start again - stupid really.
