Been training my 1 arm press recently and I am stuck. I have taped up a Kettlebell and 1 am 1kg away from the next Kettlebell. However I always get stuck as the Kettlebell passes the height of my nose, I am sure this is because of the shape of the kettlebell, its really wide so it sits funny on the wrist.

So I am now training this and thought it was a good idea to share.

I have an IM sand bag and have filled it to slightly below my desired pressing strength. Got some chain and a clip and ...

Okay, as I mentioned in an earlier thread I'm training each arm seperately because of a shoulder injury to my right arm.

So, wrt my left arm this is what I'm doing:

Monday - 2.5" crusher/RT, sledge side levers, wrist curls

Thursday - 1HP, sledge front and rear levers, wrist curls

Now my hand, in particular my thumb, is happy with this frequency of workout. Anymore and it starts getting tired and my grip suffers. However, I'm feeling I could be hitting the forearms in between ...

looking for advice, started learning the 1 leg squat and making really great progress.

Looking for some hamstring stretches/exercises. Not sure if there are any that are better than the static stretches. Got a little niggle in my left leg and wondering if poor flexibility could be the cause.

Manage to lower myself under complete control the full range of motion, can press strongly of a small stack of plates just need to work on joining the two.

So any advice on stretches or ...

Hi,

been moving up in my overhead press and notice that my shoulders are really inflexible.

When I press I don't focus on keeping my shoulder down and that works fine for me, however I have read a few times that it is good to keep the shoulder down and so engage the lats.

I find that when I try to keep the shoulder down i can't press up in a straight line. So I find it easier to kettlebell press than I do to press a bar as it's easier to cheat.

Not sure that it's necessary to press in ...

Been busy training. Decided it was time to add a power rack to the gym. I've just finished putting this one together for <£90:

£63 for the timber and that INCLUDES VAT & delivered to my door.

£10 for T plates and a box of good 4" wood screws.

£8 for 3.5m of steel conduit. I'll probably have to replace this with solid bar but it came in useful for lining up the holes in the meantime.

Simple tools and even simpler skills. I had great fun building it.

As it turns out, the ability to produce force against a weight is dependent on the speed at which the movement is trained. What this means is that if heavy weights are lifted at a slow speed, the lifter gets good at lifting them at THAT speed. He does not get good at lifting them at a faster speed. So slow deadlift training will not make the clean go faster. And if a lifter gets good at pulling a weight fast, as in a power clean, he gets good at generating force at that faster rate of speed. ...

I quite like deadlifting and, relative to my overall strength level, I'm not bad at it.

I have what I believe is a fairly common problem though, as soon as the weight gets near my max, my arse tends to shoot up without the weight, then it's all lower back.

My strategy for dealing with it has generally been to (mostly) lift within myself so I can keep the form solid.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what worked to overcome it? I've read some of Rick Walker's articles ...

A chronic back injury has meant that front and back squats are out the question for me. Hip belt squats target the legs while taking all the strain off the back. I don't have a "proper" harness to do them and was making do with chain secured to the front of my powerlifting belt. It was OK, but the edges of the belt would really dig in as the weight got heavier.

New setup: I got hold of an old girth (for free). This is the strap that goes under a horse's belly and holds the saddle ...

This led to me feeling my own backbone and lo and behold I can feel that the vertebra in line with the top of my shoulders is much bigger ...

Also my strength endurance is through the roof, and I didn't have a problem with fatigue in my supermatch on Sunday. My hand, wrist, arm, chest, abs, etc strength is all improving to pb teritory. It also feels a lot kinder on my joints, but then again I've always enjoyed reps more than singles.

The bag I made weighs about 20-25Kg and after warming up and doing any other targeted exercise such as curls I do 3 set of 10 reps of the following:

lift bag to chest height ahnd cradle as in zercher lift. go into full squat, stand up, press bag overhead without aid of legs as strictly as possible, lower to chest. That's one rep. At ther end of ...

I did 125 snatches in 6min10secs today - almost 2mins off from the last attempt.

Did some great pinch grip and attempted CoC3 closes before hand as yesterday I couldn't do my regular grip work. That said I wish I hadn't as my grip was starting to feel taxed towards the end of the snatches.

I had wanted to increase the number of reps this week but found that I got ...

May be a strange question, but with David's competition coming up in August and something I saw in the 2008 televised UK's Strongest Man I thought a bit of clarification was useful.

On the tv they were curling milk churns on a bar with the condition that the bar was brought up to touch the chin. Now this involved the biceps moving past the body which I thought was not good form. Personally I keep my shoulders set down and back with the result that the bar never approaches my chin and stops ...
