Hi,

not been bending seriously at all the last week, just some fun bends of nails this morning. I have found out that I can bend IM yellow and it's very good! Easier than last week aswell.

However I just can't budge my comparaison to IM Blue. Maybe I will get some progress when I concentrate on nail bending and #3 is out of the way.

So what do you do when a nail just wont bend at all? Do I keep trying or is this futile and likely to injure me?

Tried bolt cutting a notch into it but ...

I did a couple of singles with position(2,2) using the blue spring; i am confused about the level i am using.

David said its 20% easier , so what level is (2,2) using the blue spring?

other quest ... if i want to replace the blue for the red/black wich position should i use,to create the position(2,2) with the blue spring?

Friday

The last couple of days I've done a little stretching to try and ease some of the aches and pains whilst keeping in some kind of readiness for Saturday's ''Whey Power Challenge''. One of the issues with the more frequent training I've recently adopted from a certain David Horne (who he?? ha ha) is a feeling of 'shouldn't I be training or something' on rest days. This is probably a combination of a lack of caffeine from the usual pre-workout brown stuff and no endorphins floating around ...

Last night's workout:

Squats: 100kg x 20 in just over 4 mins

Pull overs: 10 with 14lb block weight

Collapse.

I've incorporated 20 rep squats about once or twice a week since May when I started with 60kg at a bodyweight of about 140 lb. My current weight is 147 lb so I've made some gains in size, but not quite on the scale associated with 20 rep squats. I've clearly made gains in strength as back in May I was only doing 100kgx 5.

80kg x 20 had been a target, but I felt ...

It ought to be quite simple. Creatine, in 99.99% of cases, works. I mean, in case there is any confusion, Creatine Monohydrate. Not the piss poor dissolving stuff (120 mesh = grainy, table sugar like) but the powdery 200 mesh kind sometimes called 'micronized'. The 200 mesh kind can be seen to more or less disappear and dissolve before it's reached the bottom of a glass and at worst requires a quick swish with a spoon and it's all nice and gone. So why is there, what at first glance appears to ...

I found a one piece of steel there. 7 feet long, 2" thick bar, so that is a perfect Thickbar for me 33 kg´s is the weight of that. Also my my friend was ready to sell me some metal plates, nice to me. 80kg´s total. Those are perfect for my Old Aparatus, which need 30mm diameter hole discs. This was a Prologue to my training log, which start on sunday.

I had a question asked of me "why do you prefer getting the Vulcan gripper over other less expensive (to you) adjustables"?

The main reason is they are a LOT more modification friendly.

One of the many mods that can be performed is the adjustable grip size mod.

I have some students who have small hands and the Vulcan, or any standard gripper for matter, is just a bit much for their hand spread... no matter how much schooling in setting the gripper takes place they still can't ...

I'm thinking you probably did on your WR lift but I'm not sure what you weighed at the time. Can you advise me of the stats please? I'm also unsure of many of the Europeans bodyweight at the time of their lifts? Can you help out?

I have noticed quite a few #160+ No.3's on the Finnish Calibration results. My opinion is, these are miss readings, and I'll be interested in seeing these #160+ grippers handed to Bob Lipinski, or even Climber for a cross cal. I would bet my money not one of them would crack the 160 barrier.

So I made a post saying that no one had told me not to mention it, thereby impinging my Human, and, 1st amendment rights and metioned the Vulcan. Now I've been suspended, no one has said how long for, who did it, or why, but I suspect zcor, in the study, with the lead pipe, for mentioning the Vulcan.

Hi everyone, I thought I would start a log to chart my progress and to hopefully get some tips and advice along the way.

Today’s training

Saturday 21/3/09

Warm up – light dumbbell complexes + empty grip machine reps

2HP my first time using my new adjustable pinch setup from David. I went with 52mm today but think I will drop to 48mm next week. All my plates are calibrated but I only add up exactly for the top sets.

27.31kg x 10

47 kg(approx.) x1

57 kg(approx.) x1

Now the comp is done with, thought I'd start a new log here. Going to keep on with basic strength training, and try to drop a bit of body fat, which I usually seem to do naturally anyway in summer.

14/4/09 Tuesday lunchtime work gym

Thrown off by the bank hols, didn't do any upper body as I'll be benching tomorrow.

3 mins bike, crunches, cable deadlifts

Squat: 8x20, 6x61, 5x91, 3x5x121, 12x71 front

Grippers, full no set reps: T x 10, #1 x 10, #1.5 x 10, 8R7L

a few months back had the CoC3 within an inch, came back to it recently and I have slipped backwards, though I have been tiring my hands with bending, levers etc. I am really trying to close it now and would like to be done by early january.

I have set myself the task of learning to set the gripper properly. I don't have huge hands and don't have that much padding on them. As I get my fingers onto the handle whilst setting the gripper, the handle in my palm just scrapes damn hard.

Just spotted these for sale- I've already got a 6lb pair and they're very ornate. Don't think the cord on the handles is original as I think it was a thin red twine, but they might make a nice addition to somebody's collection.

For people who bend steel, a question

Who here would be interested in a brand new message board all about steel bending, unbraced (all styles), braced, horse shoes, scrolling, a grip section, off topic, a place to discuss equipment and training routines / techniques, places to buy steel and whatnot with it's own domain name. No politics, no sponsors, I'd get it going out of my pocket and if people wanted to shoot money towards keeping it going that's cool and if not, that's cool too. Me and John Beatty discussed the idea of it today ...

As many of you know, I teach Martial Arts. What you may not know, is my standards are very high and the vast, vast majority of students who take classes at our school will not make it to Red belt, much less Black belt.

In the 20+ years of this school's history, we've had more than 2000 students... out of those, there have only been 15 who have achieved the rank of Cho Dan BLACK BELT

Nail bending as a beginner

Hi,

started nail bending a few weeks back, at first I was using pieces thin towels (the ones you use for drying plates) and some material from an old shirt. Made pretty good progress and really liked it, then I've taken a week or so off from actual nail bending but done some wrist levering and curls. I am not training this with much intensity as I am focusing on CoC3 and the pistol squat.

I have recently started doing some cleans, and hang cleans with my scaffolding pole and am getting a satisfying muscle soreness deep in my forearms.

I am also finding it pretty humbling as my grip gives out reasonably quickly and I have to lower the weights to get a decent volume.

Does thickbar training carry over well in to other aspects of grip? I hear rave reviews...but has anyone who already had a decent grip... found an improvement in supporting grip on a normal bar...or pinch ...
