Recent Loose Pinching

Post  David Horne on Mon Jul 06, 2009 5:32 pm

My training for basically three quarters of a year has been armwrestling, and great fun it's been to. Along with this I've trained all my bodyparts for the most of it in circuit type training. Strength endurance is as important to me as strength. I have a lot of thoughts on this, but another time.

Anyway I had a go at some loose pinching the other day, first in a while, just for fun, and my pinch is strong. So the armwrestling doesn't detract from this, but it does with my gripper work.

I pinched 6 x 10lb discs, and then did them with three, then two fingers only.

I also did a 2 x 20k discs in my left hand and the 6 x 10lb discs in my right hand. I think I could do them both with two fingers with a little training.

All for now

6 10lb plates is still a very short list - congrats David! 2 fingers though that might be a first ever? Have you ever lifted 6 5kg plates? When i was going through my wide pinch phase i could lift 5 bodypower 5kg plates all day but never even got any air with 6 of them.

Grippers are a funny thing - it is easy to be off on grippers when you are doing too much work on everything else. If i do too much thick bar or heavy wrist work (i imagine both come into AW training) my grippers take a nose dive.

Thanks guys!

Getting plates that fit together and that are not too wide help a lot on loose pinching. All my 5k discs are different and don't fit together well. In fact these discs weren't perfect (as there was a bit of movement), but they were way better than what I've tried before. The are the old 10lb Inch or Cyclops foundry discs from 1906 -1910s. Historically they are a great set of weights.
Here's the thread, 3rd pic down are the discs.

I'll try and get a photo soon. I'm not meant to be training this week with my supermatch on Sunday, so it'll probably be next week.

Great set of historical plates to set a PR on David,I wonder how many people have trained on them in the past 100 or so years

Mark,
Yes they are.
I just went downstairs and had a go, here are some photos.

Here I am with three fingers on each, 6 x 10lb discs in the R/H, and 2 x 20k discs in the L/H.

David; I hope you don't mind but I've reposted these on the GB, pinch like this deserves to be appreciated by those that know.

No I don't mind.

I'll try and get a proper two finger of each hand next week. As I said previously these 10lb discs are a lot nicer than the ones I've tried with before. Loose pinching has a lot to do with finding the discs that are right.

6 10s in itself is world class feat - A 2 finger lift is nuts!
