Paul Wood v Alex Horne Bench Press Challenge
Paul Wood v Alex Horne Bench Press Challenge
Paul has just benched 100k and Alex has just done 95k (thought it was 97.5k).
How long shall it run for?
Say 6 months?
Rules?
Touch and go, or Paused. Probably Touch and Go since that's what both will be training on.
Anything else Paul?

Re: Paul Wood v Alex Horne Bench Press Challenge
Sounds good to me. So we'd be talking beginning of September then.
Yes I'd say touch and go, no bouncing mind you.
I've got a slight start but reckon I'll probably need it!
I've been doing 5x5 for a few weeks and have just moved to 54321, I'll put a weekly update in here.

Start now - Ends 6th September.
Rules - Touch and Go. No bouncing Benches here, I'd bollock them!
Score so far - Paul Wood 100k v Alex Horne 95k.
Good luck to both!

Yeah somewhere around 120kg would be a good goal I think.

Good luck both!!!
I pointed one of my trainings buddies to the "strongbench" program.
Interesting was that he already trained since years and also press 140 KG already.
My Buddy was able to increase the bench to 147.5! Which is AWESOME!
We modified the program a bit..........
This website explains very well the technique and the training and best exercises for shoulders and triceps and back!
http://www.strongbench.com/
Some notes from my site:
Board press - dont do them; they are not really relevant to your "RAW" benchpress, only interesting in case you will wear a benchpress shirt in the future.....
Pls forget the 50 lb in 7 weeks.
And now PRESS!
Cheers and again good luck and lots of fun!

Paul,
He is onto this soon. We're obviously just back from the big armwrestling comp in Sweden. Actually Alex must have done about 100 armwrestles on the practice tables with all and sunder. He's got nice sore arms now - haha!
He thinks 120k is possible in the time.

Re: Paul Wood v Alex Horne Bench Press Challenge
Jolly good, yeah I'll bet his arms are sore!
Thanks T, had a look at that vid, some interesting points, I reckon I pretty much bench bodybuilder style as he puts it. Learning the lat thrust must be worth a few kg. I suck at arching my back as well. Not too sure about benching that low to the belly though, I heard some feds have outlawed 'belly benching'. Don't see much lower body work in that training programme!

Put an extra kg on the 5432 sets by using proper collars, starting from 91 and going up 2.5kg at a time. Put an extra 5kg on for a final single with 103.5, which went up no bother.

Great stuff Paul - 103.5!!
He'll be benching later. We had a monster armwrestling session yesterday, and boy was he in pain. He could hardly use the knife and fork for his meal - really!

Re: Paul Wood v Alex Horne Bench Press Challenge
Alex's Benching today was:
13 March
Warm up
85k x 5 reps
90k x 3 reps
100k x Fail
His sore arms didn't help today, as he had to down painkillers half way through his session!

Off again already? damn he's keen. I'd better get my skates on, I can see 100kg going down in the next few sessions.
