Fancy a challenge?

Post  David Horne on Sun Mar 15, 2009 6:23 pm

I fancy a challenge on a couple of exercises that I do or would be useful for my armwrestling if anyone fancies it.
We can do a handicap challenge if anyone needs a head start of some kilos.

I am doing the One Hand Bench Press (with a dumbell) right now, and also would do a Curl against Wall, one handed, two handed or both.

Tell me who fancies a go and we can sort out the details.
I'm also happy to do a rep Challenge on these too. Whatever really - hopefully it will push me onto win the a/w championships this year!

Where do you come up with these exercises? Laughing

I am tempted with the 1hand db bench - as I only seem to have one working shoulder at a time these days. Rolling Eyes

I had not been training either shoulder because of the injury to one. So this is ideal for me.

Let me see what I can manage at the gym this week and then we can work out the details. Do you have a description of how the lift is performed?

James,
Great!

I started to Bench one handed after I saw armwrestler Michael Todd doing it, and it was also after my elbow surgery so I was limited to one arm. I started off using the Olympic Bar, which was fun and productive, but have now changed to a dumbell because it's easier to get it to me, and less of a problem for the spotters.

Here's a video of someone doing one.

So as for rules, lets keep it simple.

Normal Bench rules, keep the ass on the bench.
Bring the dumbell rod down to roughly the same level as the chest.

We can run this for 3 or 4 months, whatever you fancy?
We can do it for a single, or for 10 reps, or hey both?

My best recently is:
42.5k x 20 reps
52.5k x 4 reps

This challenge should get the Triceps strong!

Good stuff. I will try it on tuesday and see where I am at. Then we can see what sort of handicap you need lol!

I am just starting shoulder work again so I would be keen to do this for a few months and we might as well do both reps and 1RM.

Sounds interesting. Never done this exercise though.
Let me see tonight what I can do and perhaps I'll join the challenge as well Wink

Nice going David thats alot of weight, dont think i could budge 62.5k. I always think of this picture of Paul Anderson when one hand bench press's are mentioned.

What a weird exercise!
I finally (at the end) figured out how to lie down for some stability, but there's still plenty of room for improvement Wink

It's a fun exercise to do and I'll take the challenge Wink

Here's what I did so far:

6 x 32
6 x 42
4 x 52

My best 2 dumbbell press is 4 x 52 as well, so that's a funny coincidence Cool

Mark,
Cool to have you onboard!

I would guess I would have got 4 reps with 60k, so you can have a 8k handicap on the single and 10 reps Challenge.

James Grahame will soon have a figure and we can get going.

I hope to get about 70+k at the end, which would be great.
